Editorial Intern- Communications

The Aspen Institute

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues. The Institute has campuses in Aspen, Colorado, and on the Wye River on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It also maintains offices in New York City and has an international network of partners.

Communications

The Communications Department manages external communications efforts including the Institute website, social media, media relations, digital editorial content and provides communications counsel to Aspen Institute programs.

Basic Function

The Communications intern will provide digital, editorial, and administrative/logistical support to the Communications department in support of its work to promote the Institute's programs, content, and overall brand to external audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write original blog posts to promote the work of the Institute
  • Stage blog posts contributed by Institute staff and partners in a Wordpress CMS, adding art, hyperlinks, and copy editing.
  • Find and store stock and editorial images for later use on our digital channels.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for the public affairs team in support of Aspen Institute events
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Status as a student or recent graduate interested in journalism, communications, public policy, or a related field.
  • Must be willing to submit writing samples (including work published online) and complete a writing test.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems and other digital tools preferred; knowledge of Photoshop a plus.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Commitment to detail.

Time Frame:

  • minimum of 20 hours/week
  • February 2019 - May 2019 with possibility for extension
