Overview:

HGA has an excellent opportunity for a talented and experienced Fire Protection Engineering Department Lead! Join our growing Fire Protection Department and work alongside our architecture and engineering disciplines. Our portfolio includes the design of health care facilities, corporate headquarters, labs, museums, local, state, and federal government facilities, higher education buildings and campuses, and infrastructure improvements.

In this role you will:
    Act as fire protection engineering department lead for the design and/or review of fire alarm, suppression, and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects.
  • Coordinate with and support other A/E disciplines.
  • Oversee BIM implementation and policies for the department.
  • Present and solicit knowledge sharing opportunities between other architectural and engineering disciplines;
  • Act as local fire protection engineering department lead in your office, to include business development and team mentorship involvement.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Create specification documentation for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Perform fire suppression and alarm systems calculations.
  • Evaluate building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.
  • Provide construction administration support including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and witnessing testing of fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate with all applicable local authority departments to obtain approval at all stages of the project, to include creation of code modification requests and engineering judgements.
  • Perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems.
  • Assist the Fire Protection Engineering Discipline Lead in administration and management of the fire protection engineering department.
  • Be responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
You will need to have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • 12 plus years of professional fire protection engineering acting as the engineer of record or responsible in charge of design projects, including familiarity with the International Code Council (ICC), NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72.
  • Registered Fire Protection PE required with ability to submit for reciprocity elsewhere
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Intimate familiarity with the production of fire alarm and suppression system designs in REVIT.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office skills required.

Other considerations:

  • NICET certification in Water-Based System Layout, Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazards Systems a plus (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies).
  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering a plus.
Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA's robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range $106,800-$174,900
