This is a Hybrid position which requires periodic work within our Owatonna, MN facility. The majority of this position's work can be performed from your home office, but the position does require monthly travel to the Owatonna, MN facility. Therefore, candidates must reside within reasonable drivable distance to the facility in Owatonna, MN.

Our team is seeking a Project Cost Accountant who is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects and investigating for Owatonna and Syracuse projects, while being a key business partner to the leadership team in Syracuse.

At a minimum you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • One (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Proven strong analytical skills with acute attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, multi-task and work independently to complete goals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Manufacturing experience/background
  • Experience with ERP, MRP or Project Management software (Epicor)
  • Experience with Project accounting

As a Project Cost Accountant, a typical day might include:

  • Completing project analysis, maintaining project revenue recognition documentation and reporting findings to management
  • Participating in Go To Market meeting and Executive Summary review to ensure accuracy of costing build up
  • Participating in monthly Cost to Complete (CTC) review meetings and recording resulting changes/adjustments
  • Investigating project variances timely and defining/implementing immediate corrective actions / risk mitigation efforts
  • Training new Project Managers on project budgeting, forecasting, and tracking of actual expenses
  • Assisting with project setup and verifying budgets and initial forecasts are set up timely and correctly in the ERP System (Epicor)
  • Working closely with the Project Management Team to maintain project financial forecasts as accurately as possible on an ongoing basis
  • Working with functional managers to verify forecasted projects' costs have been prepared on a timely basis
  • Ensuring known risks, such as commodity cost increases and labor/overhead rate variances, are addressed in project budgets and forecasts
  • Providing additional assistance on items such as change orders, changes in project scope, etc. to project managers to ensure system and financial transactions are handled completely and correctly
  • Assisting the project team in project close-out procedures
  • Working closely with tax filing team on sales and use tax accuracy and timeliness on projects
  • Performing monthly closing activities, including preparing necessary journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting analysis, etc., while ensuring an accurate and timely completion of the process
  • Assisting with preparation of forecasts and annual budget
  • Preparing supporting documentation as needed for annual audits and tax preparation
  • Partnering with the Leadership Team and serving as an Epicor subject matter expert
